So, what’s in “store” going forward? Certum researched the top e-commerce trends in 2024. These provide good food for thought in how you position and operate your online store in the new year.

Trend #1: Expect Loyalty Programs to Continue

 Even though the pandemic is behind us, many companies will continue to offer loyalty programs to their customers. While these kinds of programs have been around for quite a long time, they surged over the last few years in the race to capture more market share. But when you break down these programs, they are all about motivating the customers you have to buy more—and stay loyal to your brand.

 Protip: Enhance your loyalty program by asking your customers what would be most meaningful to them with regard to a program they would come back to, again and again.

 

Trend #2: Continue to Rely on Social Media for Sales

Social media isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon. In fact, one of our e-commerce partners, Shopify, recently published an article about the top 10 most popular social media platforms.

In 2024, online retailers will continue to publish content on social media that ties directly to sales, finding new and inventive ways to get their customers’ and prospects’ attention. Chances are you’re on social media, but how active are you? Spend some of the time you’re carving out for marketing by focusing on how you can improve your social media presence.

Protip: TikTok is super popular, but if that isn’t where your customer or prospect hangs out, be cautious as to how much time and resources you’re putting into it. You’ve got to go where the customers are.

 

Trend #3: Stay Green

Preserving our environment and making our planet greener is going to stay a hot topic in e-commerce in 2024. In 2023, Certum Solutions awarded a $5,000 Earth Day grant for environmental sustainability to Cape Fear Botanical Garden in Fayetteville, NC—and we plan to continue this grant program in 2024. We recognize the importance of staying green in e-commerce, with efforts such as earth-friendly packaging and paperless transactions. These and related trends will only continue to get stronger over the next few years.

 Protip: You can go the extra mile with your customers by talking about your green efforts—for an even greater impact. Discuss what you’re doing over social media and blog about it!

 

Trend #4: Pivot to Enable Change

No one we know likes “change,” but if you work in the e-commerce space, you have to be hyper-aware of your sales and be flexible if you need to change your strategy … which leads to the ongoing trend of keeping up with the analytics related to all sorts of areas, including sales (of course), website traffic, social media engagement and many others. Bring your team together regularly to evaluate how you’re doing and be prepared to make the changes you need to in order to meet your goals.
